MY BACKGROUND
I am from upstate (Utica) New York but was raised in a military household and traveled a lot. I originally pursued my undergraduate and graduate education at the State University of New York at Buffalo and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, respectively, where I earned a PhD in Physical Anthropology. I then entered medical school at the University of Illinois at the Medical Center, Chicago, and completed a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Washington in Seattle in June of 1983. My early professional career included academic appointments at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston from 1983-1985; and the University of Colorado Medical Center in Denver (1986-1991), where I was also Medical Director of Rehabilitation Services at Rose Medical Center. I then relocated to Kansas City, Kansas in 1991, where I simultaneously served as a full professor and chairman of the Department of PM&R at the University of Kansas Medical Center and as the Medical Director of Rehabilitation Services at Health Midwest in Kansas City, Missouri.

My wife and her family are from northwestern Iowa, and this brought me to Des Moines in 2002, where I have been in a private practice of hospital-based PM&R for 15 years with a strong side interest in rehabilitating workers with delayed recovery after compensable injuries. In large part due to my former research and ongoing publication and teaching activities in this area, I am also a nationally and internationally recognized expert in the area of Independent Medical Examinations, Impairment Ratings, and Disability Evaluations. I served as the Chief Medical Editor of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, 6th edition which was published in 2008 and has gained increasing acceptance in the United States and abroad over the past nine years.
I recently stepped down from my former administrative role as a medical director of a Des Moines-based inpatient rehabilitation hospital and this has freed me up to spend increasing clinical time focusing on the medico-legal needs of attorneys, clinical case managers and claims adjustors dealing with Workers’ Compensation and Personal Injury Claims. With recent changes to Iowa laws affecting Workers’ Compensation and personal injury claims, it is increasingly important for healthcare providers to be able to offer you a complete array of evaluating and reporting services that are as timely, efficient, transparent and objective as possible and offered at a competitive price. I am now committed and pleased to be able to offer you these services through my independently owned corporation, Pinnacle IME Services LLC. My clinic is presently located at 6165 NW 86th Street in Regus - Foxboro Square located in Johnston, Iowa 50131. If you are interested and in need of my services please call my office at (515) 537-5907 to schedule patients and to review our fee schedule.
